Books, Blankets and Breakfast HISD's Mading Elementary is the only dual language and STEM Academy in the state of Texas. At Mading, to celebrate the success of each scholar for reaching or exceeding grade-level reading expectation, students are being honored. These scholars are being allowed to dress in pajamas for the day to distinguish their accomplishment. They will spread out, in the multipurpose room, with their favorite books and blankets to read.  I feel honored and am excited to have the opportunity to do a meet and greet with these amazing students. Each student will receive a certificate, and a swag bag of goodies. In addition, I will read my book, "Marisol: A Little Girl with a Big Dream," that encourages young children to pursue STEM careers. To wrap up the event, I will deliver a word of encouragement for these scholars to continue to reach their goals. GROW WITH STEM HONORS GIVE MORE HUGS FOR SPREADING CHEER IN HISD WITH THE SPIRIT OF GIVING12/8/2017  At a time when the world has been turned topsy turvy for many of us, it is a relief to know that such an amazing organization such as Give More Hugs has, once again, comes to the rescue for a devastated community. In this season of giving, Give More Hugs will be spreading cheer with their BookShare Fair Program at a few of the schools hit hardest by Harvey. Give More Hugs’s mission is “Helping unite giving souls to provide students in need with the tools to inspire a love for learning, reading, and creativity.” It is an honor for me to donate copies of my book, Marisol, to the program. Their vision is that every student is afforded an opportunity to receive and actively participate in a quality education.  I am excited to have them come to HISD. At this critical time, there are many schools, all over the world, that are in constant need of assistance. I urge you to support Give More Hugs so that they may continue their mission.
