I was looking for an unbiased, apolitical (as possible) video that would give me the 411 on current stimulus negotiations.  I stumbled on this video by Ron Yates. Ron does an excellent job explaining "Stimulus 2 Talks".  You may also want to grab a pen and paper to take notes on valuable tips on how to make money!

During each hour-long momversation, Randi will teach for 15 minutes about how we as mothers can better our language, thoughts, actions and systems we create within our home that perpetuate racial rhetoric. Following each lesson, the moms will be invited to have dialogue and ask questions.

It’s Not Too Late To Join The Momversation!!!

Please join our second of five sessions (Friday, July 10, 2020 @ 11:00AM– 12PM CST) where mom’s, mom's to be, grandma’s, and caregivers can learn How to Have Hard Conversations about Race, Power, and Privilege within our Families.

It is important to note that this process is often messy and these conversations bring up a lot of questioning of what we may believe to be true subconsciously, during this series, we will have brave spaces to talk and interact with different peoples views.

In our first session, we discussed our own implicit biases and how we can mistakenly place them on our children during play and storytime. I will also suggest practical toys and books for children.

Grow With STEM Acknowledges Educators, Students and Parents

Picture
During this Covid 19 pandemic, students and teachers all over the world have been thrusted into a new reality--virtual learning. As a teacher, I am aware that the relationship between technology and inequality is multifaceted. My company, Grow With STEM, is offering a raffle for a Kindle fire HD 8 with Alexa or a $25 Amazon Gift Card.

Let me tell you, teachers do not get enough credit, and many of you have no idea how much work we do. We teachers had to abruptly alter our lesson plans, grasp new technologies and adapt to a new delivery system without missing a beat.  Guess what.  We did it.  Students are now isolated from their friends and their world has been turned upside down. Both, students and teachers, never had the opportunity to cap off the end of the year with hugs and joyous celebrations. And without warning, parents have had to embrace the role of homeschool teacher.

Picture
First of all, a special thanks to the educators, students and parents who jumped in, feet first, to meet the challenges of this new reality.  Also, a special thanks to those of you who purchased a copy of Adam Baum: The Autistic Engineer and Marisol: A Little Girl with a Big Dream, in order to help me make this possible.

Local, Tomball, Tx,  Author Wins International Book Award by Teaching Young Girls Positive Affirmations

Belinda N. Mays, author of “I Am, God’s Affirmations For Little Girls” receives coveted Book Excellence Award in the Children’s Religion category

PictureThe book debuted as the #1 new release on Amazon's Children's Bible Reference & Interpretation List
Founded in Toronto, Ontario, the Book Excellence Awards is an international book awards competition dedicated to recognizing both independent and traditionally published authors and publishers for excellence in writing, design, and overall market appeal. Previous winners of the Book Excellence Awards have been New York Times’ best-sellers, spoken at the United Nations and TEDx, and have had their books optioned by movie studios.

“I am both humbled and honored to gain international recognition. I started dancing when I received the notification,” says Mays. The book teaches elementary-aged girls about God’s affirmations of beauty, intelligence, and strength. It includes Bible verses paired with empowering poetry and breathtaking illustrations. “After reading this book, my hope is that girls will feel loved, empowered, and encouraged to build a solid educational and spiritual foundation rooted in God’s truth.”

The book debuted as the #1 new release on Amazon's Children's Bible Reference & Interpretation list and has already received some great reviews from industry leaders.

"Thank you for sharing this beautiful, warm book. It's God's image. It's wonderful," wrote Nikki Giovanni, award-winning poet, author, educator, and activist.

"I found it effortlessly translated the Biblical passages of yesteryear into #blackgirlmagic," wrote Christine Michel Carter, creator of Mompreneur and Me.

Mays, a graduate of Huston-Tillotson University and the University of Texas at Austin, discovered her love of storytelling following more than a decade working as a successful IT professional. Mays used the death of her father, Berkins Booker Jr., as inspiration to enter and win a Toastmasters Tall Tale contest with a speech highlighting his career as an Air Force mechanic. This resulted in her first book, “My Amazing Dad.” Two years later, Mays published "7 Days With Daddy" which is a nontraditional story about a mom going away for business travel and the shenanigans that daddy and daughter get into--a tribute to Super Dads everywhere.

My father’s death has guided me to a higher purpose: promote literacy and the black family,” said Mays. “I want to create books that teach and empower children of color and “I Am, God's Affirmations for Little Girls” does just that.

ADAM BAUM: THE AUTISTIC ENGINEER...AVAILABLE NOW

Texas Teacher’s Children’s Book Modeled After ABC’s Good Doctor Star, Shaun Murphy

A teacher is challenging the status quo on minorities in STEM careers with her new children’s book modeled after ABC’s Good Doctor star, Shaun Murphy, and inspired by students and family members with autism.

HOUSTON, TX (March 30, 2020) – Texas Educator, Children’s Book Author and Speaker, LaTanya Michell Brooks, has written a children’s book modeled after ABC’s Good Doctor Star, Shaun Murphy – an autistic surgeon.
Picture
In the popular TV series, Murphy is a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome and is recruited into the surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. He feels alone in his environment and is unable to personally connect with those around him, but he uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and change the cynicism of his peers.

Brook’s newly released book, Adam Baum: The Autistic Engineer, uses a similar plot, but in this case the main character is a young autistic boy who has a big dream to become “the best mechanical engineer ever.”  While Adam doesn’t have to contend with the pressures of the surgery room, he realizes his differences makes it difficult for him to make friends, as other kids tease him by pointing, laughing and calling him Atom Bomb.  Things began to change, one day, when Adam reveals a hidden talent that shocks and impresses the kids on the playground.

Research shows that 70% of autistic children report being bullied in middle school and high school. But things don’t get better for them as they get older.  Statistics show that 80% of autistic people are unemployed.  Moreover, although STEM jobs are on

Picture
the increase, a report from the U.S Department of Commerce revealed that individuals with disabilities are underrepresented in the STEM field and often face challenges with pursuing STEM related education and careers.

A strong advocate for STEM, Brooks is on a mission to challenge the status quo on autism and STEM careers, where minorities are often underrepresented.

Explaining her motivation for writing the book, she said: “I want to highlight and bring awareness to autism, while promoting a message of tolerance and antibullying.  My mission is to inspire kids, especially those at risk, that they are capable of great things, regardless of their background, perceived limitations, or people’s perception of them.”

Adam Baum: The Autistic Engineer is cleverly written and inspires children of all abilities to pursue STEM careers. The story is captured by vivid illustrations that engage the reader from start to finish. But that’s not all. Adam Baum also sparks meaningful conversations about compassion, bullying, humanity and respect.  The book also features reading comprehension questions to reinforce the lessons in the story.

Picture
Adam Baum is available in ebook, paperback and hardcover formats at www.growwithstem.com, Amazon, Books-A-Million, Walmart, iTunes, Google Playstore and other major book retailers.
